GX is a classification that means an animal is presumed extinct, or is believed to be extinct throughout its range, and there is virtually no chance of it being rediscovered. The purpose of this site is to list profiles of animals and hopefully increase awareness of animals that have recently become extinct. To give you an idea of what recent means in the terms of science today, it is any animal that has become extinct since the year 1500 AD.
